The Magpies have begun the 2022/23 campaign in an impressive manner and sit sixth in the league table with only one defeat in nine matches.

Last Saturday, Newcastle came out victorious over Brentford by a 5-1 scoreline at St. James’ Park and continued their undefeated home record this season.

Schar, who featured in the game against Brentford, pointed out that the goals scored by Newcastle this season have mostly come from pressing their opponents and emphasised that this is a direct result of the team’s effort to practise pressing techniques in training.

The Magpies’ defender is of the view that it is too early in the season to be celebrating their position in the league table but admitted that the Tyneside outfit are satisfied with their performance so far in the season.

“I don’t look too much at the table to be fair”, Schar told Chronicle Live.

“It’s still early in the season.

“Not all the teams are on the same games.

“Yes, we can be satisfied with recent games and where we are but it’s focusing game by game.

“When you look at how the goals are being scored they are coming from us pressing and that’s what we do in training.

“We are just very pleased with it all and looking forward to the next game.”

Next, Howe’s side will travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United, who are sitting one place above the Magpies in the league table with a game in hand.
