West Brom decided to sack Bruce on Monday following a dismal run of results that sees them languishing in the relegation zone in the Championship.

The Baggies were hopeful that the veteran manager would help them challenge for promotion this season but they have just one win in 13 games.

The 61-year-old was hoping to rebuild his reputation at West Brom following a dismal time at Newcastle.

But it has been claimed that his tumultuous reign at St. James’ Park did affect his standing amongst his players.

His reputation of being a Premier League winner and a heroic centre-back for Manchester United previously earned him respect and fear inside dressing rooms.

However, his time at Newcastle where he cut a lonely figure by the time he was sacked last year, dented his reputation.

Bruce had fallen out with some players and the fans by the time he left Newcastle following the arrival of new owners.

West Brom insiders were also worried about his attention to detail as the manager was unaware that could use five substitutes before the start of the Championship season.
