The 49-year-old has been watching the Chelsea legend ever since his playing days and is a fan of the former England midfielder.

Okocha insists that Lampard’s record as a player speaks volumes about his stature and therefore it is not surprising to see the 44-year-old find success as a manager as well.

“He was such a great player and his record speaks for itself”, Okocha told Everton Live.

“It was a delight to have played against him and also to have watched him play.

“I’m so happy he’s passing on his football knowledge now as a manager and I’m not surprised he’s doing well as a manager.”

Okocha was in attendance as his nephew Alex Iwobi scored his first goal of the campaign against Manchester United on Sunday.

Iwobi’s progress has delighted the former playmaker, who feels that Lampard is the right manager to help in the 26-year-old’s improvement.

“It’s great to see him playing to his potential.

“We all knew that he’s got something special, but it’s taken him a little while to settle down.

“I also think playing under a great manager, who really wants to improve his game and has been playing him in his right position has made a big difference.”

Iwobi has featured in each of Everton’s nine league games so far having further helped set up three more goals for his team-mates.
