In order to replace Gavin Baznu, who left Fratton Park following an impressive loan period , Pompey recruited the 21-year-old goalkeeper on loan from West Brom this summer.

Griffiths has taken up position between the sticks in all eleven of Portsmouth’s opening league fixtures this season and has managed to keep four clean sheets.

The Portsmouth boss admitted that he has been impressed by the 21-year-old goalkeeper’s maturity, and praised Griffiths’ ability to exert his command inside the 18-yard-box.

Cowely revealed that Griffiths is working on his distribution, which he is getting better at day by day, and is confident that the player will be a top goalkeeper in the future.

“You look at his maturity, he’s 21 and I have to remind myself that because he acts 31 – and I say that in the most positive way”, Cowley told The News.

“I think he has a brilliant command of his area, his ability to come and collect crosses and take pressure off the defence is excellent, his agility, his ability to get down and makes saves for such a player of his size is incredible.

“He’s working on his distribution all of the time and he’s getting better and better in that area.

“I know where Josh is going, I can see it a mile off – he’s going to be a top goalkeeper and we’re really pleased to have him with us.”

Portsmouth will take on Ben Garner’s Charlton Athletic on Monday and Griffiths will be hoping to continue his good form under the bar against the Addicks.
