The Reds defeated Manchester City 1-0 on Sunday, a result many were not expecting as Liverpool had not won in their last three games while the Citizens had won all of them.

After the match, Aldridge congratulated the Liverpool team, but also made remarks on Manchester City’s spending.

The Liverpool legend insisted that no matter how much money Manchester City spend, they will never be able to match the atmosphere of Anfield.

Aldridge’s comments incited debate with fans from Liverpool’s rivals Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Everton crticising the Reds legend.

Now, Aldridge has fired back at his detractors, taking to Twitter and posting a table highlighting the net spend and the balance of the teams in Europe’s top five leagues since the summer of 2012.

The table shows Liverpool having a lower negative balance than Manchester United, Manchester City, Everton and Chelsea, all of the teams highlighted by Aldridge whose fans criticised him.

The win last weekend took Liverpool to 13 points, but they still lag behind Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United in the league table, though they are ahead of Everton.
