Mowbray took charge of the Sunderland side at the end of August after former manager Alex Neil left the Black Cats to join Stoke City.

In his eight games in charge of Sunderland, the English strategist has been able to keep the Wearsiders in the top half of the table with three wins, three draws and two defeats.

Cirkin, who played in a third game under Mowbray after returning from his hamstring injury, revealed that the Sunderland manager had a long chat with him when he first came in and they discussed almost everything.

The 20-year-old left-back praised Mowbray for his brilliant management of players and stressed that the Sunderland manager always helps out his players, even during the match.

“I think he’s brilliant with the players”, Cirkin told the Sunderland Echo.

“Even with me I think I had a 45-minute, hour chat with him.

“We were just speaking about life and everything.

“I think he’s great and even on the touchline there he’s just always talking to me and always helping out.

“He’s a great guy and I really appreciate how he’s come in and how everyone has settled in well.

“It’s been brilliant so far.”

Mowbray’s side are ninth in the league table with 20 points from 14 games and next will take on Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday.
