Steven Gerrard is under severe pressure to save his job after Aston Villa succumbed to defeat against Chelsea over the weekend.

They are 16th in the league table and there are suggestions that Aston Villa could get rid of the manager even if they beat Fulham and Brentford in the next two games given the poor level of their performances.

Villa are said to be keen on bringing in Pochettino as Gerrard’s replacement.

Jordan insisted that a lot will depend on what version of the Argentine Aston Villa would be agreeing with if he agrees to take up the job.

He indicated that the former Spurs boss’ record in the last few years needs to be scrutinised and the appointment should not be a given.

The former Crystal Palace owner insisted that Pochettino would be lucky to become the Villa manager given the potential of the club.

Jordan said on talkSPORT: “If you get the same Pochettino as you got coming out of Southampton to Tottenham then Villa may be spending some good money.

“The moment he got into PSG, he was looking to get out of the door because it didn’t suit him.

“Sometimes what happens with managers is that they believe they are more important than they actually are, they believe in their hype, they think they are Churchillian in approach but half the time it’s the emperor’s new clothes.

“I am not saying that he would in that case, but I am questioning it because it shouldn’t just be a given.

“If he gets to manage Aston Villa, you know what, he is bloody lucky because they are a big Premier League club waiting to happen.”

It remains to be seen if Pochettino indeed agrees to take up the job if it is offered to him in the coming days.
