Cowley’s side are in fifth place in the League One table with 22 points from 12 matches this season, as they aim for promotion to the Championship.

Portsmouth began their season with an impressive nine-match unbeaten run, but now are on a four-match winless streak.

Next, the Fratton Park outfit will take on Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, and the Portsmouth boss stressed that his squad are in a good place before taking on Ian Burchnall’s side.

Cowley also pointed out that his side are in a far stronger position this season than they were in the previous season at this time of the year.

“We feel we’re in a good place. We have real belief in ourselves”, Cowley was quoted saying by The News.

“I don’t really know what’s been said [online], but I know we’re in a much better position in October 2022 than we were in October 2021.

“We know this and we have real belief in the players.”

Forest Green Rovers are in the bottom half of the table and Cowley’s side will be motivated to get back to winning ways on Saturday.
