Within an hour of Aston Villa’s 3-0 defeat to Fulham on Thursday night, the club decided to sack Steven Gerrard even before the team bus left Craven Cottage.

The Midlands club are now on the lookout for a new manager and the club are keen to bring in someone with a big reputation.

Mauricio Pochettino is a candidate they are looking at and an approach has been made but he is reportedly expected to turn down the offer.

Former Chelsea boss Tuchel is also on their radar but the German is also not interested in the role at Villa Park.

The German has been out of work since leaving Chelsea in September amidst disagreements with the club’s new owners.

Tuchel is keen to return to management and is open to managing in the Premier League again.

But he is waiting for a bigger club and a move to Villa does not appeal to him at this stage of his career.

Aston Villa have also been looking at Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim, who is known for playing an attractive brand of football.
