The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season with Championship side Fulham from Liverpool and helped them to win promotion to the Premier League.
Williams swapped Anfield for the City Ground in the summer for a transfer fee worth £17m and has featured in all 12 league games for Steve Cooper’s side, picking up two cautions.
The Nottingham Forest legend is of the opinion that the player has come through with some very good performances in recent matches for the Tricky Trees, which he thinks will help Williams mentally.
Laws pointed out that Williams’ game has improved by reducing his zeal for going forward and revealed that he believes the right-back can become a great asset for the club.
“He is coming through a negative spell with some positive performances and that will help him mentally”, Laws told The Athletic.
“I think there has been some good coaching involved.
“You can see, clearly, that he has benefited from curtailing his enthusiasm to get forward all the time.
“I liked what I saw in the early days.
“He has energy to burn, he likes to get up and down… he looked like a really good asset — and that we could forget about Djed Spence very quickly.”
Nottingham Forest will take on Arsenal on Sunday and Cooper’s side will be hoping that Williams continues his good form against Mikel Arteta’s men.
