Former Luton Town manager Jones was appointed as the Southampton manager last week as previous Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl was removed from the job after an unsatisfactory start to the ongoing campaign.

Jones took charge of his first game as Southampton boss at the weekend, where his side suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Anfield.

Keys believes Luton Town made the right decision in offering Jones the position of manager for a second stint with the club in 2020 and complimented the Welsh strategist for the work he accomplished with the Hatters.

The veteran broadcaster joked that Jones has no fingernails as he bites them down and wished the Southampton boss best for his future in his new role.

“Good luck to him. Nice guy”, said on the Keys & Gray podcast.

“He had one [opportunity] at Stoke and it didn’t go as well as he wanted it to.

“Luton, I thought, were very good at picking him back up and what a job he did. Wow.

“He possesses no fingernails.

“He bites them down.

“But he’s a British coach who I wish all the luck in the world to.”

Southampton are currently in the bottom half of the league table with 12 points from 15 games and Jones will be hoping to turn the situation around after the World Cup break.
