Gakpo was on Manchester United’s radar in the summer, but they eventually decided to sign Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax in the summer.

Leeds made a late dash for the Dutchman as well and had everything agreed upon before the player decided to reject the move on deadline day; the Whites are tipped to try again for him in January.

The 23-year-old is said in some quarters to have moved beyond Leeds’ reach but Manchester United are still keen, in a further obstacle for the Whites.

And according to French outlet Foot Mercato, Ten Hag wants him in the winter window on a priority basis.

The Manchester United manager wants to add an attacker to his squad following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Gakpo fits the bill and the Dutchman is pushing Manchester United to sign the forward in the winter window.

He is having a great season in PSV and scored for the Netherlands in their opening World Cup group game against Senegal.

PSV were prepared to sell him for €45m last summer but are now said to be demanding a fee of around €60m.

Leeds are still interested in Gakpo and are likely to make one more attempt in January.
