Rangers are set to speak to their former assistant manager after seeking permission from Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

QPR are reportedly expecting the 42-year-old to agree to take up the vacant managerial position at Ibrox in the coming days.

The Gers are likely to finalise the appointment by next week but Wilson warned that the Rangers fans should not expect any miracles from Beale in the middle of the season.

He insisted that the Rangers players who have been below par all season will not instantly improve under Beale and stressed that he is going to find being a manager at Ibrox is a lot different to being the assistant to Steven Gerrard.

The former Scotland star said on Clyde 1’s Superscoreboard: “I am not quite sure that Michael Beale coming in can wave a magic wand and all of a sudden the players who have been underperforming dramatically will change.

“He worked with them when Rangers won the league and he got a tune out of them.

“He did most of the stuff and Steven Gerrard was there to rule with an iron fist and be that influence in the other side of the game.

“It’s different being a manager where he has to come in now and he is the main man.

“Will he still want to do the majority of the coaching? Does he then build a coaching team that he rules with the authority that Gerrard did?

“And can he get the same tune out of the players halfway through a season where they have been underperforming and have taken some heavy beatings?

“It’s going to be an interesting couple of weeks.”

If he takes up the job, Beale’s first assignment will be a friendly against Bayer Leverkusen on 10th December.
