Beale’s appointment as the new Rangers manager was confirmed earlier this week and he is now working with the squad on the training pitch.

Rangers return to league action in two weeks’ time when they take on Hibernian at Ibrox.

With nine points separating them from league leaders Celtic, Dalziel cannot see a way back for Rangers into the title race and insisted that the Bhoys have too much quality in their squad to squander their advantage this season.

However, the former Rangers star stressed Beale can still make it a successful season for the Gers if he can win one of the domestic cups and get more out of the current squad of players.

Dalziel said on Clyde 1’s Superscoreboard: “I think success for me would be obviously winning one of the cups.

“I can’t see them winning the league.

“I know the new manager bounce, we have heard it a million times, I have heard all the positivity coming out of Ibrox but he has still got the same players.

“Yes, one or two will come back from injuries but I just feel looking at the two squads and the managers, I feel Celtic are, with nine points and a good goal difference, strong favourites to go on and clinch the title.

“So success for me would be to get these players up and running, win a cup and look at the transfer market and who he brings in.”

Rangers will be playing a friendly against Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen next week as part of their preparations.
