Bentley, 29, was Bristol City’s first-choice goalkeeper for the last three seasons but has found himself pushed down the pecking order this term.

He played in the opening 13 Championship games for Bristol City but lost his place in the team thereafter, not making an appearance since then.

Bentley’s contract runs only until the summer and while there was speculation over a new deal for him, he is currently on track to become a free agent at the end of the season.

Now, Stoke are considering whether to go in and try to get the shot-stopper on loan until the end of the season.

Stoke have switched between Jack Bonham and Joe Bursik this season to stand between the nets and could provide more competition for them in the form of Bentley.

Bentley has 260 appearances in the Championship and could provide an alternative to the relative inexperience of Bonham and Bursik in the second division.

It is not known whether Bristol City will look for an replacement for Bentley should he leave but the Robins could save on some of his wages with a loan deal in the last months of his contract.
