The winger has struggled for game time under Antonio Conte at Tottenham and Spurs are on the lookout to bring in a new attacker in this month’s transfer window.
Lucas is expected to leave Tottenham at the end of the season and has interest from a host of clubs.
And according to Brazilian outlet UOL, Lucas has been aware he will be leaving Tottenham since September.
The attacker has known that the current campaign will be his last at Spurs and has already looked at what his options are for the future.
He has options in Europe and the MLS, while Sao Paulo are hoping to bring him back to Brazil.
It is by no means certain Sao Paulo will succeed, with competition for Lucas’ signature claimed to be fierce.
Lucas has made just eight appearances, spanning 90 minutes, in the Premier League for Tottenham this season.
