The Yorkshire giants paid a club-record fee to snare the 20-year-old away from Hoffenheim in the ongoing transfer window.
Meslier played an important role in selling the move to his compatriot and Leeds are certain that they have pulled off a coup in convincing him to move to Elland Road this month.
The Leeds goalkeeper admitted that he has known Rutter even before he was a teenager as they come from the same area and he watched him play youth games in Lorient.
He has kept tabs on his journey in football from Rennes to Hoffenheim and admitted that he spoke to him about Leeds before he made the move.
Meslier is confident that Leeds have signed a player with potential who is going to do big things for the club.
The Leeds goalkeeper told LUTV: “He is a very good lad.
“I know him since I was 12 because we are more or less from the same place, 30 minutes from each other.
“He came for a few tournaments to Lorient, my hometown, and I saw him go to different clubs, finish in the academy of Rennes and take his flight to Hoffenheim.
“I know him very well.
“He asked me how the club was and I explained everything and I think he took the right decision.
“I am sure that he will be great and important for us.”
Rutter is in line to make his debut when Leeds host Brentford at Elland Road on Sunday in the Premier League.
