Bajcetic, who is a Celta Vigo academy product and joined Liverpool in January 2021, has managed to break into Jurgen Klopp’s first-team set-up this season.

The 18-year-old defensive midfielder has made ten appearances for the first team so far this season and scored his debut goal against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

Otero, who observed Bajcetic growth during his time with Celta Vigo, sees similarities between the defensive midfielder’s game and Busquets’ style.

The director of the Celta Vigo academy also stressed how Bajcetic differed from Busquets in terms of his ability to drive into the box of the opponent or support attacking advancement.

“He reminds me of Sergio Busquets, the best Busquets of many years ago”, Otero told the Liverpool Echo.

“He would only play in the midfield and the other players attacked, but Stefan has other qualities different to Busquets; he likes to advance into the opposition box and support attacks.

“Stefan can play No.8, not just No.6.

“I say Busquets because he was one of the best midfielders in the national team with Spain, but Stefan has a different future to Busquets.

“At the top level though, I’m sure.”

Otero believes that Bajcetic is ideal for the fast-paced, high-intensity games of the Premier League due to his ability to quickly break away from opponents and excellent ball control.

“For me, Stefan is a player that is better suited to the Premier League than La Liga”, he added.

“In Spain, it’s very slow but the Premier League is very fast-paced, end-to-end and with a higher intensity that suits Stefan’s conditions.

“His legs are incredible, the capacity he has to turn and explode away from the opponents.

“His first, second and third touches in small situations too are incredible.”

Bajcetic recently signed a long-term contract with Liverpool, committing his future to the club until June 2027.
