The 29-year-old defender signed a new contract with Leeds just before Christmas but he is no longer a certainty in the team.

He has been reduced to being a bench option at Leeds and has played just two Premier League games since October.

Max Wober’s arrival has further pushed him down to the pecking order and Leeds are claimed to be ready to loan him out for the rest of the season.

And according to Sky Italia, the centre-back is closing in on a loan move to Serie A giants Roma in the coming hours.

Negotiations are ongoing between the two clubs but an agreement is expected to be reached for the Spaniard to move to Italy.

Jose Mourinho has been keen to reinforce his defence this month and Llorente is a player Roma have identified.

Roma will sign Llorente on loan for the rest of the season and the deal will also contain an option for the Giallorossi to buy him in the summer.

Jesse Marsch is ready to sanction his loan as he feels he has enough options in defence for the rest of the season.
