Phillips has made just five appearances this season for Liverpool and has been on the periphery of Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

He has been linked with a move away from Anfield in January with several clubs in the Premier League believed to be interested in him.

But it has been claimed that a move away from Liverpool on deadline day is now highly unlikely.

Phillips is likely to remain part of the Liverpool squad beyond the end of the window due to a fresh injury in the Reds’ defence.

Konate has picked up a hamstring injury and will be out of action for at least the next two to three weeks.

Liverpool are already without Virgil van Dijk, who is also nursing a hamstring problem and is not fit to play at the moment.

The Reds now do not want to lose Phillips due to the lack of numbers in their defence and in the number of injuries in their squad.

Phillips is now facing spending the rest of the season knowing that he will play very little football if the other defenders are fit.
