Southampton have been working on a deal to sign the forward this month and there was confidence that they would sign him on deadline day.
But it seems their pursuit of the Braga forward is set to end in tears due to some aggressive moves made by Marseille.
The French giants initially failed with a bid for him but they have gone with an improved offer for the Braga striker on deadline day.
According to the Portuguese daily Record, Marseille have offered Braga a deal worth up to €32m today.
The final figure of the deal will take the number beyond Vitinha’s €30m release clause, which is mentioned in his Braga contract.
Marseille have further sweetened the deal by offering a slice of any future sale to Braga as part of the proposed terms.
The new bid has surged Marseille past Southampton in the pursuit of the striker on deadline day.
It has been claimed that they are close to working out a deal to sign Vitinha in the coming hours.
