Despite being in big trouble at the bottom end of the Premier League, Everton did not make a single signing in January.

They also offloaded highly rated winger Anthony Gordon, who completed a move to Newcastle United on a £45m deal and many feel they have ended the window with a weaker squad.

Questions are being asked over why Everton failed to strengthen and Stubbs does not want the hard questions to be directed at new boss Dyche.

He feels Everton’s director of football Thelwell needs to come clean over what happened.

“Can we see our DOF alongside SD at the press conf today to explain to the fans the failings behind our disastrous window”, Stubbs wrote on Twitter.

“Let SD do the 1st part focusing on the game, leave and let DOF explain the rest.

“It SHOULDN’T be SD explaining for others!! We are behind you SD.”

Everton could still make additions to their squad over the coming days, but will have to focus their efforts exclusively on the free agent market.
