The 24-year-old forward spent the first-half of the ongoing season on loan from Everton at Wigan Athletic, where he managed to find the net five times.

Broadhead was recalled from his loan spell with the Latics and joined Ipswich Town on a permanent basis in the recently closed transfer window.

The centre forward impressed McKenna with his performance against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, where he scored his first goal for the Tractor Boys.

McKenna acknowledged that integrating new players who arrive in the middle of the season into the squad is difficult, but emphasised that the newcomers have settled in well.

The Ipswich boss also added that Broadhead finding the back of the net against the Owls will give the player and the team the necessary confidence.

“It is not easy integrating new players in January, but that is what we wanted to do”, McKenna told Ipswich TV.

“Because it gives us a stronger squad for the next few months and next few years, in some cases.

“It is of course a process that the boys have settled in well; it does not happen overnight.

“And little things like getting your first goal help that process.

“Of course, Nathan produced a big moment for the team to help us turn around a difficult situation and that will give him and the rest of the boys confidence.”

McKenna’s side are third in the league table and Ipswich Town will take on Bristol Rovers tonight at Memorial Stadium.
