Newcastle are in impressive form this season and while the Magpies are eyeing a place in Europe next season, they have also reached the EFL Cup final.

Howe’s side are set to face Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United in the final and they have an opportunity to end their 68 year trophy drought.

Barton is of the view that Manchester United are vulnerable in certain areas of the pitch and pointed out that Newcastle have quality wingers, who can exploit Ten Hag’s fullbacks.

The Magpies legend also stated that Howe will not set up his team to sit back against the Red Devils and believes that Newcastle will be able to overrun Manchester United.

Barton also stated that under Howe, Newcastle are a difficult team to score against and stressed that the club have demonstrated a strong mentality this season.

“I think they are vulnerable in certain areas, you can get at their full-backs and our wide players are good enough to hurt them”, Barton told Chronicle Live.

“I don’t see Eddie sitting back trying to grind out a result, maybe in moments of the game but I think he has shown when there is a right time, we can get forward and overrun them.

“Manchester United are very much a forward-thinking team, it leaves them a bit exposed.

“I think Eddie will go out there to win, not to frustrate them but we’ll go toe to toe.

“Eddie will be positive in his outlook, and he’s built a team which does play a good brand of football and he wants to hurt teams and overrun them.

“I’m sure Manchester United will be thinking the same thing, but we have a mindset in the Premier League where we don’t lose games.”

Newcastle are boasting the best defensive record in the ongoing season, but Howe’s side will be without their first-choice goalkeeper Nick Pope on Sunday.
