Rangers are preparing for the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic at Hampden Park on Sunday.

The Glasgow giants have not lifted this particular trophy in over a decade and Beale is also looking to win his first piece of silverware as Rangers manager.

However, Sakala has managed to raise the heat between the two rivals through his words ahead of the final by insisting that Rangers are better than Celtic despite being nine points behind them in the title race.

He also claimed that Steven Gerrard would have beaten Ange Postecoglou to the league title last season had he stayed at Rangers and stressed that the Gers want to hurt Celtic fans by beating them in the final.

McManus conceded that while the media are likely to be delighted by Sakala’s words, Rangers – Beale and his team-mates – are unlikely to be too impressed by words which will fire up Celtic.

The former Hibs striker took to Twitter and wrote: “Media must have been delighted Rangers put him up to speak.

“Not so sure his manager and teammates will be. #naive”

Celtic won the Scottish League Cup last season and will look to defend the trophy on Sunday, while stopping Rangers’ momentum under Beale.
