The two sides will take each other on for the second time this season after their 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light on the first day of the season.

The 22-year-old admits that Sunderland were the worst opponents to face on the first day of the season given that they had just been promoted to the Championship and had the fans all excited.

A lot has happened since then, with the midfielder reminding Sunderland of the fact that Coventry are a different team now and better than they were on the first day of the campaign.

“I remember the first game of the season against Sunderland”, Eccles told his club’s official site.

“They were probably the worst opponent to face on game week one.

“They had just been promoted and their fans were well up for it.

“Their fans are loud and we weren’t at our best.

“We’re a different team now and we’re better now than we were.”

Eccles revealed that Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray is someone who has watched him before and warned the Black Cats manager that Coventry will give everything on the day.

“Tony Mowbray came to watch me once at an FA Youth Cup game, but I think I was a little bit too young for him to remember me.

“We’ve got nothing to lose.

“We’ll go out and give our 100 per cent and if we can get the three points we’ll be looking up at those top six places, for sure.”

Coventry are currently placed eleventh in the Championship table, having won three of their last five league matches.
