Chelsea paid a club record fee of €121m to snare the midfielder away from Benfica in the winter transfer window.

The 22-year-old Argentinian was hugely impressive during the World Cup and was adjudicated as the Young Player of the Tournament in Qatar.

Fernandez has wasted little time in cementing a starting spot in the Chelsea side and has been one of the bright sparks in a Blues side who have struggled for consistency this season.

Crespo believes Chelsea are exactly the right club for the midfielder at this stage of his career and is convinced that he is good enough to handle the pressure of being a Blue.

The former striker is confident that Fernandez will be able to adapt to the challenges of playing for a club of Chelsea’s stature.

“Chelsea is a great step for any player”, the former Chelsea star told The Athletic.

“I have the best memories of my time there and it’s a great place for Enzo to develop.

“He will handle the pressure.

“He is a very good guy, humble and hard-working.

“And he has consistently shown that he has the ability to adapt to new challenges.”

Fernandez has already made eight appearances for Chelsea and is expected to be a massive part of their future.
