Alli’s performance curve has gone downhill over the course of the last few years with him initially losing his starting place first at Tottenham Hotspur, then making no impact at Everton and being loaned to Besiktas.

He has struggled badly in Turkey and Besiktas coach Gunes no longer counts on Alli as part of his matchday squads, with the midfielder firmly out of favour.

Gunes recently complained he could not get in touch with Alli, but the player insisted Besiktas had signed off on a trip back to England.

The jury is out on what the future in Turkey now holds for Alli, however Redmond still has faith in the midfielder.

Back in Turkey but currently unable to train due to injury, Alli has earned support from his team-mate.

Redmond, who knows Alli well from his Premier League days, insists that the former England international still has a lot to give, while conceding it is tough to talk about his out-of-favour team-mate at present.

“Dele is someone I have known for a long time. I know what he can do”, Redmond was quoted as saying by Turkish outlet Star.

“At the end of the day though, it’s not what I think.

“Our coach’s decisions and preferences are important.

“It is a difficult question.

“I think he is a very good football player.

“He is a good player regardless of whether he plays or not.

“I still believe he will contribute to our team.”

Alli has featured in 15 games for Besiktas so far, making three goal contributions and the Turkish side have no intention of triggering an option to buy in his loan from Everton.
