The 41-year-old is a product of Gibraltar outfit Lincoln Red Imps and in 2016 scored against Scottish giants Celtic in the Champions League second qualifying round to hand the Imps a shock 1-0 victory.

Casciaro has made 55 appearances for his national side, scoring three goals and on Friday became the oldest player to feature in a European Championship qualifying match, when Gibraltar took on Greece.

The centre forward admitted that playing at the highest level at his age is a proud moment for him and believes that his achievement is testament to the tremendous hard work and dedication that a footballer has to endure to play at the top level.

Casciaro also stated that as long as someone can work hard and enjoy football, age becomes a number for that person.

The Lincoln Red Imps star emphasised the importance of keeping the body fit and healthy and revealed his desire to play at the highest level for a few more years.

“It’s a proud moment playing at the highest level at the age of 41”, Casciaro told Inside Futbol.

“It’s an achievement for all the hard work and dedication footballers have to endure, especially the older you get.

“Until when, who knows? As long as you keep enjoying yourself and putting in the hard work, age is just a number at the end of the day.”

Asked about Zlatan Ibrahimovic potentially breaking his record, he replied: “The important part is keeping your body fit and healthy and who knows where it will take me – hopefully a few more years more.”

On Monday night, Casciaro played 86 minutes in Gibraltar’s 3-0 defeat in Euro 2024 qualifiers against the Netherlands.
