Johnson’s men were held to a 1-1 draw by St Johnstone and saw James Jeggo given his marching orders shortly into the second half.

The point means that Hibernian have secured a top six spot in the Scottish Premiership and sit in fifth place as the split happens.

Johnson has hopes of securing European football over the final five games of the season and feels if Hibs are to do so then the fans will have to continue to play their part.

He tipped his hat to the fans who travelled to St Johnstone and feels it is an example of the power that Hibs have as a club, which helped lure him north of the border.

“It [the support] was one of the reasons that I was desperate to come up here on a personal level, but more importantly it’s for the players and getting behind them and they are the ones who are out there, warriors on the field”, he told Hibs’ media.

“Our supporters in the stand always give us a boost. The away contingent all season has been fantastic and an example of how powerful we can be as a club is when we do travel in those numbers.

“We’re still in that transition phase where we’re trying to improve, week in, week out and today signals progression, moving forward, allows us to get in that top six and fight for that European place.

“And we’re going to need every fan to go beyond the call of duty to get us there.”

Johnson will be looking to reshape his squad at Easter Road when the summer transfer window opens and whether or not he has European football to offer could determine who he can tempt to the club.
