Newcastle are admirers of the speedy winger and Magpies boss Eddie Howe is expected to be backed in the transfer market this summer.

According to German magazine Sport Bild, Newcastle are in the process of putting together an offer for the 23-year-old.

However, Leverkusen will not easily sell and have identified €60m as the figure they want to cash in on Diaby.

The Bundesliga side have him under contract for a further two years and are under no pressure to sell, but they have picked a price point at which they would do business.

Diaby has further boosted his stock this season, having been involved in 25 goals in 43 games for Leverkusen.

Newcastle are not the only club to have noted the winger’s talents.

It is suggested that Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are also showing interest in Diaby, but it remains to be seen if they are also preparing offers.
