Leverkusen are expected to be in the market for a midfielder when the summer transfer window swings open for business.

And it has been suggested that they are interested in snapping up Arsenal’s Xhaka, who only has a year left to run on his deal in north London.

A possible fee of €15m has been mooted for the Swiss, but Rolfes is not willing to be drawn into talking about specific names.

He admits that Leverkusen will be in the market for signings, however will not confirm interest in Xhaka.

“There are always rumours”, Rolfes was quoted as saying by German outlet Fussball Transfers when asked about the Xhaka link.

“We are looking around the market, but I will not comment on that.

“We want to fundamentally improve our team. There will be changes, we want to create new impetus.”

Leverkusen currently sit in sixth place in the Bundesliga and it has been claimed their coach Xabi Alonso is a key contender for the vacant Tottenham Hotspur job.
