The Magpies are looking to secure a place in the top four in the final weeks of the season before making a big splash in the transfer market.

The club are reportedly prepared to take the leash off and spend big to strengthen Eddie Howe’s squad over the summer transfer window.

Midfield is an area Newcastle are prepared to invest heavily in this summer and they have several players on their shortlist of targets.

And according to German broadcaster Sky Deutschland, Szoboszlai is a player Newcastle have now made a priority target as they feel he ticks all the boxes.

The 22-year-old midfielder has scored eight times and laid on 13 assists in all competitions this season.

Eddie Howe and Newcastle’s recruitment team like him and are keen to take him to the north east of England.

He has a €70m release clause in his contract though and Leipzig are clear that if any club try to sign him for less then they will not play ball.

And Newcastle have yet to contact Leipzig about signing Szoboszlai this summer.
