Dier, 29, joined Spurs from Sporting Lisbon in 2014 for a transfer fee worth £4m and has so far made 270 league appearances for the London side.

The England international moved to Portugal from England when he was but seven years old and came through the youth ranks at Sporting Lisbon.

Despite interest from Portugal, Dier opted to represent England at international level and made his debut for England in 2015, but he continues to have a deep connection with the Iberian country.

Dier revealed that he especially misses the food in Portugal, picking out the orange juice as the main thing he remembers as a highlight, but also namechecking croissants, steak and mushrooms.

What I like most when I go to Portugal, which there isn’t here, is natural orange juice”, Dier told Eleven Sports.

For me, the oranges in Portugal are different to the ones here.

There aren’t any here.

“Going to Portugal and the breakfast at the cafe, you know?

That atmosphere in the cafe, breakfast… Maybe it’s the thing I like most.

That natural orange juice, a croissant mix – something like that – that doesn’t exist here.

“Food is completely different. Steak with cream and mushrooms and rice, Portuguese rice! It doesn’t exist here either.”

Dier may take the opportunity of the forthcoming summer break to pay Portugal a visit and enjoy the food he is currently missing before he heads back into a busy pre-season with Tottenham.
