Celtic are on the lookout for a new manager after Ange Postecoglou left the club to join Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week.
The Bhoys are looking at several names as they look for the right man and Knutsen is a coach they are closely considering at the moment.
The Norwegian’s attacking brand of football is an attraction for Celtic, who are looking for some continuity from the Postecoglou era.
And former Celtic star Riseth is convinced that he is absolutely the right kind of coach for the current Bhoys side.
He claimed that when Knutsen signed his current deal with Bodo/Glimt he had offers from clubs in the Premier League and Germany but he just did not want to leave his carefully constructed side.
The former Bhoy stressed that Celtic must absolutely get him if they can but admitted that convincing him to leave Bodo/Glimt would be a tough task given how much he loves the club.
Asked if Knutsen is the right coach for Celtic, Riseth told the Herald: “One hundred per cent.
“I know that before he signed his current contract with Bodo/Glimt that he had the chance to go to Bundesliga clubs in Germany and Premier League clubs in England.
“But he felt that he couldn’t walk away because he had a really good team.
“If Celtic have a chance to sign him up they have to because he is a really good coach.
“He is definitely the right coach for Celtic.
“But I think it is going to be really difficult for them because he is really happy at Bodo.”
Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna is also being seen as a viable candidate to become the next Celtic manager.
