Erik ten Hag has identified Mount as a priority target as he seeks to add a dynamic number 8 to his squad this summer.
However, Manchester United have failed with three bids for the midfielder with Chelsea wanting a fee of £58m plus another £7m in add-ons.
Manchester United felt that their last offer of £50m plus £5m in add-ons was fair and have been left unimpressed by Chelsea’s negotiating strategy.
And it has been claimed that they have identified four other midfielders as potential alternatives to Mount.
Manchester United are yet to take a call on whether to walk away from the negotiations to sign the Chelsea star.
But they have alternatives in mind and any addition would be acceptable to Ten Hag even if Mount is his top target.
The England midfielder has already agreed personal terms with Manchester United and is pushing for the move to Old Trafford.
