Mark Robins’ side narrowly missed out on winning promotion to the Premier League last season and are keen for a fresh tilt in the upcoming campaign.

Simms showed an ability to score goals in the Championship during a half-season loan stint at Sunderland last term, before he was recalled by Everton.

Sunderland want the 22-year-old back at the Stadium of Light, but have been clear they will not be drawn into a bidding war.

Ipswich are also firm fans of Simms and it was claimed they had seen an offer of £4m knocked back by Everton, talk that was later suggested to be wide of the mark.

Simms though is not Sunderland or Ipswich bound and is instead tipped to join Coventry.

Coventry are in pole position to sign Simms from Everton and it is claimed that a deal is expected to be agreed by the weekend.

All eyes will be on whether Simms’ other suitors try to hijack Coventry’s swoop now news of the club pushing to land the striker is public knowledge.
