The Villans are closing in on a deal to sign the winger from Leverkusen this summer after seeing off serious competition from Saudi Arabia.

Diaby has given his nod of approval to a move to Villa Park despite having a life-changing offer on his table to move to the Middle East in the ongoing transfer window.

Aston Villa also have an agreement over a fee with Leverkusen, which was said to be around €50m plus add-ons.

But according to German daily Bild (via Fussball Transfers), Aston Villa have agreed to pay a much larger financial package for Diaby than previously anticipated.

The Midlands club have agreed to pay a base fee of €55m to Leverkusen as part of their agreement.

The final fee could reach up to €60m if the winger hits all his targets to trigger the add-ons in the deal.

Regardless of the add-ons, Diaby is set to become the second most expensive sale in Leverkusen’s history following Kai Havertz’s €80m move to Chelsea.

It remains to be seen if Al Nassr make a late bid to turn Diaby’s head.
