The 22-year-old forward was a bit part player at Blackburn last season and scored two goals in cup competitions for the club.

Blackburn have been open to letting him go on loan in the ongoing transfer window and there has been significant interest from clubs in League One.

Derby have been in talks to secure a deal to sign the forward on a season-long loan from the Championship club this summer.

But it has been claimed that the Rams have pulled out of the race to sign Vale ahead of the new season.

The forward suffered a hamstring injury during pre-season and will be ruled out of action for a considerable period of time.

Derby decided against pursuing a striker who is out injured and will now consider other options on their table.

Blackburn will hope to find takers for Vale later in the window if he is expected to return to full fitness.
