A product of the Leeds academy, Gray made his debut for Leeds on Sunday in their 2-2 draw over Cardiff City in their Championship opener at Elland Road.

The 17-year-old midfielder is the son of former Leeds star Frank Gray, the grandson of Whites legend Frank Gray and the grand nephew of another Elland Road folk hero Eddie Gray.

Matteo is pleased to see Archie take forward that legacy on his debut and pointed out that he alongside new signing Ampadu were brilliant against Cardiff City on Sunday.

The former White believes that the duo can really form a great bond in the middle of the park and forge a really strong midfield partnership for Leeds this season.

The ex-Leeds star said on LUTV: “The Gray dynasty, which was so good to see.

“Archie played so well and Ampadu as well.

“The two players that I picked out from that game were them two.

“I think the forward players did well at times but them two in the midfield could form a really good partnership.”

Leeds are expected to add more players before the window shuts but Archie has already earned the trust of new manager Daniel Farke.
