Southampton slapped a £50m asking price on Lavia this summer and Liverpool were reluctant to meet it, seeing three bids of below that figure rejected.

Chelsea came in and agreed a deal in recent days and now Liverpool have agreed a £60m deal with Saints, which will mean the Blues will have to raise their bid.

Now Liverpool have an agreement in place with Southampton and they will try to close out the transfer.

Lavia must be convinced to reject a move to Chelsea in favour of heading to Anfield with Liverpool.

Chelsea are set to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton, beating Liverpool to his signature, but still want Lavia.

The Blues are firm admirers of the young Belgian midfielder and are keen to take him to Stamford Bridge.

The choice is now likely to come down to Lavia and which club he feels represents the best next step in his young career.
