Royals boss Ruben Selles is plotting an instant return to the Championship for his side and he wants to strengthen before the window closes.
Defence is an area that Selles is looking at and Swansea man Cooper is of interest.
Reading have been in touch with Swansea to ask about whether Cooper would be available this summer.
Cooper, 23, is interesting a number of League One sides who noted his displays for a struggling Forest Green Rovers side in the division last term.
The defender moved to Forest Green in the January transfer window on loan and featured in over 20 League One games.
Reading believe that Cooper can once again do a solid job in the division.
The defender, a product of Swansea’s youth academy, has also had loan stints at Yeovil Town, Newport County and Swindon Town, to enhance his development.
