Adams has made a good start to the season in the Championship with two goals in the first two league games of the campaign.

However, the forward is in the final year of his contract and Everton have launched a bid to take the attacker to Goodison Park in the ongoing transfer window.

The Toffees are said to be ready to offer a deal worth £12m to get their hands on the Scotland international this summer.

Martin conceded that he is not aware of any bid for the striker yet but insisted that an offer needs to be close to Southampton’s valuation of Adams despite his contract situation.

The Southampton boss admitted that he would love to hold on to him and the club would have to replace him if he ends up leaving in the coming days.

Martin said in a press conference: “I don’t know anything about the bid as I haven’t caught up with Jason [Wilcox] this morning.

“It will all depend how close the bid is to our valuation.

“I’d love to keep him given the impact he’s had in two games.

“He’s had less minutes than Arma [Adam Armstrong] because at the time it looked like he would be going elsewhere but that just stopped.

“His energy has been great so I’d be gutted but if he goes it will mean we can replace him.”

Everton boss Sean Dyche wants to sign two strikers before the window slams shut on 1st September.
