Brendan Rodgers’ side are determined to make an impact on the Champions League this season after a poor campaign in the elite continental competition last term.
However, the Bhoys could face difficulty in reaching the knockout stage in the tournament as they are clubbed with teams such as Feyenoord, Lazio and Atletico Madrid.
Feyenoord registered an emphatic victory against Heerenveen at the weekend but Van Hanegem believes that Celtic will ask difficult questions of the Dutch club in Tuesday night’s Champions League match.
Van Hanegem admits he has seen Celtic’s Asian stars and warned Feyenoord about the difficult task ahead.
“I certainly do not believe that Celtic will be overrun in the same way as Heerenveen”, Van Hanegem wrote in Dutch daily the Algemeen Dagblad.
“I hope Feyenoord will win, but I have seen those Japanese, Kyogo Furuhashi, Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda from Celtic at work a few times, and the Korean Yang Hyun-jun.
“Believe me, they will not be a cakewalk.
“On the contrary, I am yet to see that Feyenoord that will simply win against Celtic and Ajax.“
Feyenoord will be hoping they can edge out Celtic in their group stage opener, especially on home turf.
