Sunderland signed the 20-year-old attacking midfielder from French outfit Le Havre last summer and Ba featured 29 times for the Black Cats in the league last season.

Ba has featured in nine out of the ten league games this season for Sunderland and scored twice while assisting one goal so far in this campaign.

Mowbray pointed out that Ba’s game is full of wonderful attributes, but stressed that the midfielder lacks the end products in terms of goals and assists.

The Sunderland boss admitted that Ba has a competition with Patrick Roberts for a spot in the starting line-up and stated that the player brings power and pace to the team.

“He has amazing attributes”, Mowbray told Sunderland’s media.

“He can run all day; he is fast; he has lovely technique; and he can sit people on their back side by checking and twisting.

“The end product is what he needs and he needed a goal or he needed to assist something with a really clever play because he has some competition with Patrick [Roberts] to be honest.

“Everybody knows I really like Patrick Roberts and what he can bring, but this kid brings something different.

“He brings power and speed.”

Ba scored a 62nd-minute goal in the game against Watford on Wednesday to help Sunderland secure a 2-0 win over the Hornets.
