Liverpool legend John Aldridge has hailed Reds star Joe Gomez as Mr. Versatile for his ability to play in several positions in defence and stressed it is vital he remains fit.

The 26-year-old centre-back has been a key part of Liverpool’s squad this season and Jurgen Klopp has deployed him in both right-back and left-back roles in several games.

At the weekend, in the game against Arsenal, Gomez came on in the 35th minute to replace Kostas Tsimikas, who picked up an injury, and put in a strong performance.

With left-back duo Andy Robertson and Tsimikas both being injured, Aldridge stressed that Liverpool have to keep Gomez fit until the other left-backs return from their injuries.

He also pointed out that Gomez is an important asset for Liverpool and hailed the centre-back as Mr. Versatile for his ability to play in different positions according to the needs of the team.

“We really need to keep Joe Gomez fit because if we lose him, we’ve then got a real problem on our hands”, Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

“Gomez is Mr Versatile, he can play at left-back, right-back and centre-back.

“That makes him such an asset to the team.

“He will likely have to fill in at left-back while Tsimikas is out.

Liverpool are set to take on Burnley today at Turf Moor and they will be hoping to secure three points to get to the top of the Premier League table.
