Charlton Athletic have improved their offer to sign Cheltenham striker Will Goodwin, who Oxford United have been closing in on, according to journalist Jon Palmer.
The 21-year-old striker has scored six times in League One this season and there is a race on to secure his services.
Cheltenham could sell the player with Charlton and Oxford pushing to secure a deal to sign Goodwin in the ongoing transfer window.
Their initial bids were considered not good enough but Oxford reportedly took a lead in the race to sign the forward on Tuesday afternoon with a new offer.
However, it has been claimed that Charlton are not bowing out of the race and have put in an improved offer.
Goodwin is a top target for Addicks boss Michael Appleton who wants to add more goals to his squad this month.
It remains to be seen whether the new offer from Charlton is good enough to reach an agreement with Cheltenham in the ongoing window.
Charlton are sitting 13th in League One and Appleton wants to improve his squad in order to show progress in the latter half of the season.
