Tam McManus has bemoaned the ballooning wage bill at Hibernian while the team continue to struggle on the pitch this season.

Hibs have been struggling this season under manager Nick Montgomery and are currently sitting outside the top six of the Scottish Premiership standings.

The club are set to receive new investment but have announced a loss of £3.9m and a massive 81 per cent wages to turnover ratio in their latest accounts.

Outside of the Old Firm clubs, Hibs have one of the biggest wage bills in Scotland but performances this season have not aligned given how much they are spending on players.

McManus pointed out that Hibernian have massively underachieved this season while the players salaries have ballooned at Easter Road.

The former Hibs striker took to X and wrote: “Some wage bill at Easter Road with a squad that is mostly underachieving.”

Montgomery is desperate to turn things around as Hibernian look to break into the top six this season.

There are question marks over his future just ahead of a period where the club’s spending power is likely to increase due to new investment.
