Russell Martin has insisted that Southampton’s unbeaten run will not make any difference if they do not achieve their goals at the end of the season.
Southampton have been on an astonishing run of form, which has propelled them to second in the Championship standings.
They are unbeaten in 21 games since tasting their last defeat in September and are now one of the firm favourites to earn automatic promotion to the Premier League this season.
However, Martin indicated that not too much should be made out of their unbeaten run and insisted that if they do not achieve their goals at the end of the term it will count for nothing.
The Southampton manager said in a press conference: “I will maintain what I have said all along, we need to make sure our unbeaten run counts for something at the end of the season.”
Saints will host relegation-battling Huddersfield Town at St. Mary’s this weekend.
However, Martin wants to guard against complacency and stressed that no game in the Championship is a given.
“No game is easy.
“We have to make sure we are hungry.
“It will be another nice moment – I want the players to keep feeling that.”
