Liverpool would face paying a substantial sum to take Tim Steidten away from West Ham United with it being unclear if he has a release clause, according to the Daily Mirror.
The technical director has impressed with his work in the transfer market while at the London Stadium.
Steidten, who admitted recently he has not heard from Liverpool, is thought to be admired at Anfield and has been linked with a switch to the Merseyside club.
However, if Liverpool do come calling for Steidten to become their new sporting director, they would face having to dig deep into their pockets.
It is also unclear whether there is any release clause in the German’s contract which Liverpool could activate.
Liverpool are preparing for life without manager Jurgen Klopp, but in addition to a new manager they need a new sporting director.
Jorg Schmadtke had been doing the role, but his deal has now expired following the end of the winter transfer window.
Current Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso is the favourite to become the new Liverpool boss, but who the Reds might appoint as their new sporting director remains unclear.
